Successfully winning his battle against the velociraptors, the T-Rex lets out a triumphant roar.
The central theme of the movie is whether man can control nature, and the banner falling from the ceiling as the T-Rex roars victorious answers it. The dinosaurs have won against their captors, nature has won against mankind, and humanity will have to deal with the consequences. Not only is this a fun shot, the movie would have been far less impactful without it.
The key to this shot is the Golden Triangle, where the frame is divided into a group of four triangles, done by drawing one diagonal from one corner to another, and then two lines from the other corners, touching the first at 90-degree angles. Similarly to the rule of thirds, subjects can fill a triangle, be placed at the intersections of a triangle, or be placed alongside the lines.
If we use the falling banner as the main diagonal to divide the image, not only does it fall along that line, the tail of the T-Rex coincides with it's respective line.
Flipping the triangles vertically, we see that now it's the underside of the Tyrannosaur that follows the main dividing line almost perfectly, and the corners of the banner touch the other dividing lines.
In either arrangement, there are other elements that parallel these lines, most notably in some of the triangular extensions of the second floor. More than just the Golden Triangle though, these elements create lots of triangles all over the image. A few examples are the gap between the T-Rex's tail, leg, and the floor, the wooden beams in the ceiling, the T-Rex's mouth, and the space between the banner, floor, and the T-Rex's leg.
Golden hour sunlight has always been considered to be one of the best times for photography, and although this is an interior shot, the large windows in the ceiling let in that warm amber light. Contrasting it are the cool florescent lights in some of the background construction areas. Together, these work to keep the lighting balanced across the image, without any one area becoming a distracting black hole. Considering that the banner uses black to emphasize the text, any other dark area would take the viewer's focus away from the banner.
The late afternoon timing of the shot brings in a lot of warm coloring to the image. These colors are mirrored in the reds and yellows of the banner. Complenting these warm colors, the florescent lights in the second floor construction areas provide a bit of visual contrast with their cool tones.
