One story, three perspectives. Perhaps because we’d seen the scenes unfold in Carrouge’s and le Gris’ perspectives already, I found Marguarite’s point of view the most interesting.
Because it’s her story, and her perspective comes last, it builds a lot of suspense forwards the outcome of the duel. However, that suspense falls a flat since the nature of the two men involved says who will win: one is a warrior, the other is someone who just wants fun.
Still, any narrative flaws aside, it’s a good look at how 14th century life worked, politically and economically.
