For a generation that ”does it for the ‘gram” and only cares more about getting recording concerts with their cell phones than enjoying the experience, it only seems natural that a photographer who still shoots with film would have an outlook like that of the one here: “If I like a moment, me personally, I don’t like to have the distraction of the camera. I just want to stay in it.”
Its cinematography was much better than I’d have expected. There were several moments where I caught myself thinking about how I liked the framing of a specific shot. Of course it’s a film that’s partly about photography, so I’m glad the visuals were elevated to match.
It is also a film about bravery. Not necessarily the same as someone facing death, but about going outside your comfort zone. I think Ben Stiller stepped out of his directorial comfort zone some for this movie, and ended up with a film better than it had any right to be.
