Review:

It’s been decades since I’ve last seen this and, while I remember it being entertaining then, today I find it a masterpiece. It’s still visually amazing, and the transitions from sunken ship to new are impressive. Narratively, it’s interesting. Present day scenes ground the story in reality instead of general fiction, and explaining how the ship sank not only lets the audience know what’s happening later while the ship is sinking, it enhances the impending doom of the film’s final act. It’s a serious film that manages to find moments of humor and levity, and while Kate Winslet is good in this, Leonardo DiCaprio is even better, truly earning his star status.
